Providers, clients and contacts

The provider delivers the service, the client receives it and contacts are the people who participate on the client’s behalf. These concepts are related, but they are not interchangeable.

An organization and a person are not the same

Section titled “An organization and a person are not the same”
  • Provider: the organization delivering services and coordinating its team.
  • Client: whoever receives those services.
  • Contact: a person participating on behalf of a client.
  • Operator: a member of the provider’s team who participates in a project’s work.

A client can have several contacts. Adding a person does not mean creating another client.

North Team delivers services to River Center. Ana works on the provider’s team; Luis is a client contact. Both can participate in the same project, but their access and responsibilities differ.

In the provider’s workspace, Clients brings together those receiving its services. In the client’s workspace, Providers shows the teams delivering services through its accessible projects.

Participation does not give access to everything

Section titled “Participation does not give access to everything”

Belonging to an organization does not automatically open all its projects to an ordinary member. Access depends on assignments and administrative responsibilities.

Likewise, contacts can view the information available to them; they do not gain access to every organization or all of the provider’s work.
